Johara is of Dutch-Moroccan decent; born in 1972 in Amsterdam. She studied Human Resources Management in Breda and Amsterdam, and is currently studying psychology at the Open University in the Netherlands.

Additionally she has certificates in Critical Incident Stress Management, psychological first aid and field traumatology. She is a certified trainer in Critical Incident Stress Management.

Johara has been working since 1998 in international humanitarian aid organizations. First for Médecins sans Frontières (Doctors without Borders) and since 2001 for World Vision International. As a team member of the Global Rapid Response Team, she worked in a number of large humanitarian aid projects in among others Afghanistan, Pakistan, Darfur (Sudan), Tsunami (Indonesia), Haiti and recently in Jordan for the Syrian refugee crisis and the Philippines after the mega typhoon Haiyan. Johara has worked with the CISM method since 2005 across regions, countries and cultures.

At this moment Johara is part of World Vision’s global Staff Care Unit. This unit is responsible for promoting the well-being of 45,000 staff across 90 countries. Her specialization is in coordinating psychosocial interventions in disaster zones across the world.
